We are pleased to announce that the following fields have been updated for English institutions, where data is available:
These updated fields can be found the ‘Key Stage 4 (KS4)’ and ‘Key Stage 5 (KS5)’ sections of the Destinations tab of an Institution record. The fields are also exportable via an Institution Profile Report (members only), which can be found on the Reports section of the HEAT database.
This update relates to data for the 2022/23 Academic Year, which is the most recent available data, and the update applies to Secondary and Post-16 Phase institutions.
There are Key Stage 5 Destination fields which have not been updated due to their omission from the current (2022/23) and future Destination dataset releases. The Department for Education states their reason for this is there is no longer the provider level accountability measure in place to compliment this measure. The fields impacted are as follows:
For more information regarding the 2022/23 release and the above changes, please refer to the ‘Changes to the data in 2020/21’ section on the DfE’s website.
For further information regarding which fields are updated for each country’s update, please see the Institution Profile Source resource, which can be accessed via the ellipsis (overflow menu) on any Institution record (members only) by selecting the option to ‘Download Source File’.
As per our previous Data Update concerning the Destinations data release for this year, following the re-release of the source dataset, we also undertook an extensive mapping exercise when preparing the data for import into the HEAT database.
This mapping exercise is intended to improve our quantity of mapped institutions from the source data to the Institution Records on the database, and has been undertaken for both the most recent release (2022/23) and the two dataset years prior, 2021/22 and 2020/21, to ensure consistency.
We undertook this process following the Department for Education’s confirmation that institution LAESTAB codes can change for the same institution over the course of different dataset years, due to changes in the Local Authority code from year to year. As such, our improved mapping exercise utilised multiple data points to ensure institutions were mapped where the LAESTAB changed, and that predecessor and successor institutions were accounted for and mapped to the correct data in context.
Going forward for the next Destinations dataset release, we will continue our typical process on incorporating in the newest available data, now that the historical data has been updated to utilise our improved mapping.
