- Call for Interest: HEAT to liaise with Wonde regarding access to school and college cohort data
Does your organisation currently use Wonde or are considering doing so? Members are invited to express interest on whether HEAT working with Wonde and their school and college Management Information Systems (MIS) software would benefit your organisation
We have recently met with Wonde to find out what they offer and to explore whether HEAT could collectively utilise this Service. If you haven’t heard of them, here is a brief introduction on what they offer.
What is Wonde?
Wonde (wonde.com) is a portal that facilitates the sharing of individual information from the institution a student attends to the organisation requesting access. It contains approximately 30,000 institutions, mainly schools and colleges, with 96% UK coverage. The service acts as a conduit between schools and colleges by offering an API that allows requesters to download whole institution cohort information.
How would HEAT work with Wonde to provide school and college cohort data?
HEAT would build a tool that enables the transfer of individual information. It would need to provide Wonde with a list of institutions it wishes to receive cohort data from, alongside a statement outlining what, how, why, and for how long the information would be used for. An invite is sent to each institution, who review the request and respond with yes, no, or further information required. Costs are per institution basis with the price decreasing based upon number of institutions accessed and the length of contract.
What are the next steps for HEAT?
We seek to ascertain if HEAT working directly with Wonde is something that will benefit your organisation. In this first instance, we are asking:
- Does your organisation currently use Wonde or are they considering doing so? If yes, please let us know how it’s going.
- Can you see this as a potential avenue you would like HEAT to explore? From a collective stance, we have the advantage of bargaining power and individual information procured could be readily available in the HEAT system.
- If a new approach to the collection and access of HEAT Student records is viable for your organisation? As you know, currently you reach out to individual/institutions and put a Privacy Notice in place. For HEAT to collectively adopt the Wonde approach effectively, we would need to determine which information to request collectively.
- Should HEAT pilot the use of Wonde to provide this information to the Membership? We realise this shift in data collection has many implications so we need to understand if a viable product can be taken forward. We can do this by creating a pilot in the Wonde test account.
