HEAT provides an Institution Profile Report which details the profile of schools and further education colleges in the United Kingdom, supporting members to identify institutions attended by target groups of learners.
To populate the Institution Profile Report with data for English schools and colleges, HEAT accesses data from the Department for Education’s National Pupil Database and the Individualised Learner Record. We provide the proportion of pupils attending each school or college who live in disadvantaged areas based on all metrics widely used by the sector.
The Institution Profile Report also provides other publicly available data for schools, such as demographic profiles, attainment profiles, and student destination data, to build up a rich picture of the pupils attending each school and further education college in England.
Additionally, to support with providing a national perspective across the United Kingdom, the Institution Profile Report also contains demographic profiles for schools located in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, where institution data is publicly available.
To facilitate collaboration and partnership working across the membership, HEAT members share data on the kinds of outreach activities delivered by other HEAT member organisations within each school and college across the United Kingdom. This commitment to data sharing across the HEAT collective enables members to work in partnership with each other to reduce duplication and burden on schools. It also helps with strategic planning, enabling members to identify gaps or overlap in delivery.
The HEAT Coverage data is accessible to members on the Coverage tab of an Institution record, as per this example institution (members only). If you have any queries about accessing this data and our resources available, please get in touch with HEAT Support.
HEAT’s Postcode Profiler provides a detailed analysis of postcodes, including multiple measures of social disadvantage, to assist with targeting and planning. Members upload a list of postcodes to quickly view information on the way that postcode has been classified according to postcode proxies frequently used in the targeting of interventions.
HEAT’s Student Profiler report allows members to upload a list of students to match with Student records across all HEAT member organisations. The dataset generated provides information on all other outreach activities in which those students have participated.
There are a number of ways that HEAT can support work with individuals at risk to inequality of opportunity at higher education, such as care experienced learners and service children.
When planning interventions or activities, the HEAT database allows members to record this information within Student records. Additionally, information about the number of at risk individuals enrolled at an organisation is also captured on Institution records, so members can account for the intersections of individual and area-based characteristics and target those learners most in need.
Streamline data capture for activities and interventions, track the counterfactual and monitor progress towards objectives and targets.
