- Upcoming Postcode Profiler data update: Incorporation of new English and Welsh Indices of Deprivation data
Following the expected release of the new versions of the English and Welsh Indices of Deprivation data towards the end of 2025, the Postcode Profiler underlying dataset will be updated to include this new data in Spring 2026
We are pleased to announce that we plan to incorporate the upcoming new Indices of Deprivation releases for England and Wales within the next scheduled update to the Postcode Profiler, which is expected for release to the HEAT database in April/May 2026.
How will the new releases impact the Postcode Profiler?
For both England and Wales, the upcoming release of the new Indices of Deprivation data will see the relevant data points within the Postcode Profiler updated from the 2019 versions of the data to the new 2025 versions. This will impact the following metrics for both England and Wales:
- Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)
- Education, Skills and Training (EST)
And the following metric will also be impacted for England:
- Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI)
The Postcode Profiler contains both a ‘Current’ and an ‘Archived’ version of the Indices of Deprivation fields, with the latter providing the metrics sourced from the second most recent version of the Indices of Deprivation. As such, in addition to the above, this update will also see the ‘Archived’ Indices of Deprivation be updated from the 2015 to the 2019 version for England, and from the 2014 to the 2019 version for Wales.
Other Indices of Deprivation updates
The planned update to the Scottish Indices of Deprivation is currently expected in late 2026, as per the following information provided by the Scottish Government: Our plans to update the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation.
As such, this update will not be included in the 2026 refresh of the Postcode Profiler, but would be expected to be included in the 2027 refresh, provided the new data is made available along the expected timeline.
