Jisc have recently published an update to their planned publication schedule of the HESA Student Statistics data for 2022/23. The data will now be published on HESA’s website in August 2024. For more information, please see Jisc’s announcement. These delays to Jisc’s timetable have been caused by the challenges they have faced with the new Data Futures collection model and so are affecting all those in the sector accessing bespoke data from Jisc.
Only once Jisc have published their HESA Student Statistics will they be able to release our HEAT-HESA Track dataset to us. In October 2023 we published an announcement saying that we expected that we would be in a position to release the HESA data to you in August 2024. We worked with Jisc on this expected timeframe and it was our best estimate given the information we had at the time. Unfortunately, owing to the further delays to Jisc’s publication timetable, we will now not receive the tracking data at HEAT until after August 2024.
Jisc have not yet confirmed when we, at HEAT, will receive the tracking data, but have reassured us that they are doing all they can to link our data as quickly as possible.
Assuming that Jisc supply us with the data in September/October 2024, we are now aiming for a release date of November 2024. We are working hard at HEAT to reduce the time we spend checking the data and uploading it to the HEAT database, by preparing as much as possible, but this usually takes us four to six weeks. A November 2024 release is our best estimate at the moment, but we will continue to monitor the situation and publish updates when we have more information from Jisc. If we can get the data to you sooner than November we certainly will.
Jisc have said the delays have been necessary to ensure a high-quality dataset and that the later publication will mean that data resubmitted by providers up until 30 April 2024 (as part of their HESA return) can be included. This will, of course, mean a more accurate and up-to-date tracking dataset for us all on which to base our impact reporting and so will be worth the wait.
While we wait for the HESA data, there are lots of other datasets, dashboard and events to help inform your evaluation:
