Tracking students into higher education

We will soon be sending the student data recorded by your institution on HEAT off to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) for tracking into higher education. HESA’s entrants databases are a year behind so the most recent year of entry we are able to access is 2015/16. If your institution has students eligible for tracking into this year or earlier years you will have recently received a communication letting you know the number of students who will be tracked.

Just a friendly reminder, only those participants for whom you have recorded their first name, last name, date of birth and postcodeand indicated that you have permission to track – will be included in the data submission. In addition we will only send participants who are age ready (ie they were at least 18 years of age in the academic year 2015/16 and therefore old enough to progress to university).

We estimate that the raw student data with HESA fields appended will be available in February/March 2017 with a report to follow shortly after that for those with at least 150 students who have participated in an outreach activity also recorded on HEAT. If you do not yet have student data recorded on HEAT that is ready for tracking, you can still use the All HEAT HESA Report which we will also produce. This will aggregate data from all our subscribers as part of our continued efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach.
