The latest news from Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham, is that the Government has recently confirmed the UK will implement the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) despite the decision to leave the EU. The Commissioner’s communication on 31st October outlines how the ICO will support implementation of the GDPR, and provides useful links to a range of guidance and advice for Data Controllers, Data Processors and Data Protection Officers (link to the Commissioner’s blog).
In addition to the Commissioner’s blog, the ICO has also released two newly updated guidance documents, which HEAT recommends to members as of significant importance. However, as Data Controllers and Processors in your own right, members must always refer to their own nominated Data Protection Officers for institution specific guidance and advice. The ICO documents are:
- Privacy Notices, Transparency and Control – code of practice on communicating privacy information to individuals
- Privacy Notice Checklist – summarising principle considerations when drafting privacy notices
Both documents are available to view or download from the ICO website, via the above links.
